Aesthetically you’ll notice that it doesn’t look radically different from the current A4. To the uninitiated it could even be passed as a face-lift. But make no mistake that this is actually a brand new car. The overall familiarity of the design is to keep the identity of the A4 intact, you cannot mistake it for any other car and it looks rather elegant in form. The new DRLs look good and edgy. They flank the 3D grille which is in tune with Audi’s new design philosophy.

The shoulder line is quite prominent and runs all the way from the headlamp to the tail lamps. Performance is really impressive. Sure, its 8.08 second 0-100kph time is well off the BMW 320d M Sport’s launch-control-enabled 7.25 second benchmark figure, but you’ll never feel left wanting for power in the A4. The A4 responds well to even mild taps on the throttle and generally feels peppy and light on its feet. It’s alert at low revs but comes into its element as the engine revs on crossing 2000rpm. The mid-range is strong and if you keep the pedal to the metal, the engine will rev happily to 4700rpm before the electronics step in and upshift automatically. As mentioned, the A4 is available in India in front-wheel drive only. Launch the car hard and you will feel some effects of torque steer and, honestly, it’s not as exciting around the bends as its rivals either. However, you always do get a good feeling of control at the helm and handling is always safe and predictable, which should be enough dynamic prowess for the majority of A4 buyers. You can fine tune the experience to the extent thanks to the four driving modes on offer – Normal, Dynamic, Auto and Individual. Were it up to us, we’d go for the Individual setting and put the steering in Dynamic and engine in Normal.

The compromise brings in the more feel-some steering from the sporty mode while doing away with its mildly jerky low-speed power delivery. The driving modes don’t alter the A4’s suspension characteristics, but the stock setup is rather nice as is. Bump absorption is excellent and the overall ride quality is largely free from that typical firmness we’ve come to expect from European cars. That the suspension does its work quietly is also something that helps maintain the calm in the cabin. If there’s something to bring up, it’s that there is perhaps a bit more up and down movement at triple-digit speeds compared to the petrol engine car. But even so, the A4 diesel feels well damped at all times.

Recommending the new A4 to anybody so far has always included a caveat about the petrol engine. It’s a good engine, no doubt, but comes across as a bit underwhelming for a luxury car. With this diesel engine, the A4 finally gets the power it always deserved. The diesel engine is strong, refined and, with an ARAI-tested fuel-economy of 18.25kpl, promises to be fuel efficient too. In fact, the diesel engine immediately makes the new A4 feel more complete and elevates it in terms of desirability. Therefore creating an entirely new segment better known as ‘Compact MPV’ the GO+ is basically a stretched version of the GO hatchback that aims to provide more style, more seats, better power and more practicality. What does this all translate into well, let us find out.Adding a third row meant that Go+ has an increased length of 3995 mm with an overall width of 1635mm and height measuring 1490mm. In profile this compact MPV does resemble its sibling ‘Go Hatch’, which in the current scheme of things is not out of the ordinary as many of its competitors have also followed a similar route to keep the product cost effective at the end of the day.

There’s not much new to be said once you climb into the cabin as it’s basically a Go hatchback upfront. You are greeted by the dashboard that you’d be familiar with if you’ve been in the first Datsun product. It’s stylish and functional but hardly one with substance. Even the air-con system is basic with a four-speed blower and no option to de-fog or re-circulate. With seating, the front seats are as slim, flat so u tend to slide around. But there’s no seat height adjust, or steering adjust here either. It’s the second row that seems to have witnessed some improvement and it feels like a bit more airy and comfortable place to be in.

However, it’s still as lacking in thigh support. The all important third row, needs to be accessed by folding and flipping the second row seats forward. But the added row is not a space you would want to fit into. There is just no space for adults here. And this applies even for children. The bench is on the floor with absolutely no space to rest your feet and your head (even for those of average height) will knock against the descending roof. Datsun Go+ Performance

The engine on the Datsun GO+ is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 104Nm of peak torque. The power ratings are the same as the GO, but as the weight has been increased by 38kgs, the engine tuning has been changed for better drivability. Lesser insulation makes the engine a tad noisy, but for this price you can’t get anything better. The power produced by the engine is sufficient for city or even highway driving and the Datsun GO+ has the biggest size engine of the lot. This means there is more torque to pull easily in the city, with one of the best acceleration in this segment. There is a lot of vibration at idling.

The five-speed box manual transmission is mounted on the centre console and this makes it easy to shift, as the positioning is very convenient. The GO+ runs a fuel efficiency of about 14-16km/l in the mix of city and highway driving.As the GO+ has a longer body with the same wheelbase, the suspension has been stiffened to avoid it from bottoming out.

Other things that make driving easy are the well-metered brakes and the light steering. While the sound insulation is still quite poor with plenty of road and tyre noise filtering in, it is definitely a step ahead of the Go hatchback. Also, if you rev the motor to 5000rpm, it starts to sound quite noisy. It rides well too, the suspension has been upgraded to deal with the greater load at the rear, but it is very pliant and absorbent and really silent when going over rough patches and there isn’t too much pitching or nose-bobbing. It does roll when cornered hard though, owing to the high ground clearance, soft springs and lack of anti-roll bars. And the slim tyres don’t offer too much grip either. Audi Q3 Exterior

Things haven’t changed drastically in this small lil SUV as it still looks more macho than the Mercedes Benz GLA and definitely more enthusiastic than the BMW X1. Audi has given it a mid life facelift and thus it gets certain modern elements but still maintains its earlier charm.At front, there is a crisper looking three dimensional single frame radiator grille sporting new edges around its shape with a contrasting brushed aluminium finish. The streamlined headlamps intrude this arrangement neatly. The fog lamp pockets too have got a new design except for a small change i.e. they no longer feature fog lamps as the headlight cluster gets LED day time running lamps. The creases and contours on the front make it look wider than before.

The interior too remains largely unchanged and continues with the dual-tone black and beige upholstery with Aluminium Tangent inlays. While we have no complaints with regards to the quality of the materials used, the cabin itself feels dated. In terms of features, the baby Audi gets a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, MMI infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, electrically adjustable front seats, automatic climate control and rear AC vents. What is really surprising is the fact that we’re in 2018 and the Q3 still doesn’t get even a single standard USB port! Both the front and rear seats are comfortable and offer good support. Headroom is generous in the rear seat while the knee room is limited. Having said this, the cabin can accommodate 4 adults as the transmission hump at the rear seat will make the third passenger feel he/she is uninvited. Although no details are available about its drivetrain yet but the reports states that the next generation Q3 might borrow the same drivetrain from the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan. The powertrain range will include both three and four cylinder enginesavailable in both petrol and diesel variant. If the reports are right then the Q3 will get a 2.0 Litre 200 Hp turbocharged engine which will be paired to a 6 speed automatic gearbox however there will perhaps be also an option of a S tronic dual clutch gearbox as well.If everything goes according to plan then Audi might also add a completely new plug-un hybrid system as well which promises to offer excellent fuel efficiency. The Audi sprints from 0-100 km/hr in a claimed 7.9 seconds while returning an average fuel efficiency of 11-12 km/l. The ARAI-claimed figure is 15.17 km/l. What’s bad is that the steering lacks feedback. It is very light at low speeds though. There are no official words from Audi yet as if when they are planning to launch the next generation Q3 but offcourse it won’t come out in view of the public until next year.
